I have decided to live a clean/ non-toxic lifestyle as much as possible. Based on my previous post, you can probably understand why I want to go clean. I never had the desire to do so until what happened to me and after I got married. For some reason, I felt the urge to change my products, especially my cleaning products. I clean ALL THE TIME and multiple times a day. The thought of inhaling those chemical products as well as using them constantly frightened me.
My sister lives a non-toxic life for years now. You can check her blog “Transition into a clean lifestyle” here. She went as far as changing her entire makeup collection. I am not there yet LOL. Honestly, I must admit I haven’t found a good clean foundation for my skin type and the colour ranges of those clean foundations are not the greatest. I don’t wear makeup on a regular basis so this is not really my main focus at the moment.
Let me be honest with you, this lifestyle is expensive. I get overwhelmed with the amount of information. Every day, I learn something new and wonder gosh! how am I going to do all this? I look around my house and see things I have to throw away. I’m literally throwing money away. This is hard! *sigh* Should I go cold turkey or should I finish the chemical products I currently own? I am torn.
TOXIC ITEMS I HAVE SWITCHED ALREADY
1. Cleaning products
As mentioned previously, I have started switching my cleaning products. The easiest way for me was to make my own. One of my favourite companies is Dr. Bronner’s. I use the Pure-Castile Liquid Soap for practically everything.
2. Candles
I burn candles almost every day. I love candles that much. It was important for me to stop purchasing toxic candles. I recently discovered a company that makes non-toxic candles called SOJA&CO.
3. Body wash
Again, I only use Dr. Bronner’s Pure-Castile Liquid Soap. It works great for me and a little bit goes a long way.
4. Deodorant
This was THE MOST challenging category for me because I sweat a lot under my armpits. In other words, I tend to smell faster than regular people. Finding a natural deodorant was a real struggle. I tried many brands and was even able to find techniques as well. One technique that works for me is layering my deodorants – at least 2. I also suggest reapplying your deodorant multiple times a day if needed.
2 brands I can truly recommend. If you are looking to make the switch.
- Crystal
I tried two of their products: the Mineral Deodorant Stick and the Mineral Deodorant Roll-On. Both worked okay for me. I definitely have to reapply during the day to make sure I stay fresh.
- Native
This one is THE BEST. I can’t believe I slept on this one for so long. I was seeing a lot of influencers promote it and that’s why I was hesitant. I gave it a try and whoaaa! It truly lives up to the hype. It exceeded my expectations. For the past few months, I’ve been purchasing Native deodorant only. I truly love it.
I’m still a baby in this lifestyle. Slowly but surely, I’ll be able to make a full transition.
Stay safe,
Ga’L
